News Item:
£1.7M BBSRC Award

Prof Jim Naismith and Dr Olav Schiemann have been awarded ~£1.7M (plus £300K for Ian Booth in Aberdeen) from the BBSRC including two postdoctoral positions, a technician, a research co-investigator, all for five years, and a pulsed EPR spectrometer.  The research of the grant aims at developing a new integrated approach combining PELDOR (an emerging EPR technology), X-ray crystal analysis, electrophysiology and molecular biology to characterize the conformational states of membrane proteins as they change during function. Results are expected to have a major impact on drug design since membrane proteins are a key target for the pharmaceutical industry.
